The
purpose of the Mentoring Program
is to assist in preparing students for an appropriate
post-baccalaureate option (graduate school, professional
school or direct entry into the workforce).
Objectives
- Provide
services and referral of information related to post-baccalaureate
preparation
-
Match
students with mentors from similar academic/professional
backgrounds
-
Collaborate
with other university departments to facilitate
programming for participants
-
Become
a one-stop source for references related to graduate/professional
school, and workforce entry
Mentoring
Team Matching
Students
will have the opportunity to be assigned to either
a peer or a professional mentor. Some peer mentors
may receive mentoring from professional mentors.
-
Mentees:
Undergraduate students, including the targeted
population of OMA students (African American,
Appalachian American, Asian American, Hispanic
American, Native American).
-
Peer Mentor: Undergraduate students
with junior or senior standing, or sophomores
who participated in the OMA Mentoring Program
as a freshman.
-
Professional Mentors: Faculty and
staff; graduated and professional students;
community professionals.
