Academic Advancement Services

Our Mission

Academic Advancement Services (AAS) is an operating unit of the Office of Minority Affairs at The Ohio State University. The mission of AAS is to provide leadership for the Office of Minority Affairs and the University on initiatives aimed at the academic success, retention, graduation, and post-baccalaureate preparation of OSU minority and first-generation college undergraduate students.

To fulfill its mission, Academic Advancement Services facilitates program components that provide academic support, retention advising/counseling, and post-baccalaureate preparation to enhance the academic success, retention, graduation, and after-graduation preparedness of its constituent groups.

The AAS program components include the Tutoring Program (academic success); the Minority Advising Program (retention & graduation); the OMA Bridge Program (retention & graduation); the ACCESS Collaborative (retention & graduation), and the Mentoring Program (post-baccalaureate preparation).

The primary groups served by AAS include: African American, Appalachian American, Asian/Pacific Islander American, Hispanic/Latino/a American, and American Indian/Alaskan Native American. A special emphasis is placed on assisting those students recruited by the Office of Minority Affairs through the College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP), Freshman Foundation Program, Morrill Scholars Program, and Young Scholars Program.
