Mentoring Program
Strategically Connecting to Materialized Dreams
The purpose of the Mentoring Program is to assist in preparing students for an appropriate post-baccalaureate option (graduate school, professional school or direct entry into the workforce).
Objectives
- Provide services and referral of information related to post-baccalaureate preparation
- Match students with mentors from similar academic/professional backgrounds
- Collaborate with other university departments to facilitate programming for participants
- Become a one-stop source for references related to graduate/professional school, and workforce entry
Mentoring Team Matching
Students will have the opportunity to be assigned to either a peer or a professional mentor. Some peer mentors may receive mentoring from professional mentors.
Mentees
Undergraduate students, including the targeted population of OMA students (African American, Appalachian American, Asian American, Hispanic American, Native American)
Peer Mentor
Undergraduate students with junior or senior standing, or sophomores who participated in the OMA Mentoring Program as a freshman
Professional Mentors
Graduated and professional students; community professionals
