The Mac A. Stewart Distinguished Award for Service

This award was named in honor of Dr. Mac A. Stewart, current Vice Provost and Chief Diversity Officer of the Office of Minority Affairs at The Ohio State University. The award recognizes his distinguished career and tireless efforts in higher education, particularly as they relate to African American males. Annually, this award will be given to an individual in government, education, professional societies, and/or the community who has demonstrated outstanding service and leadership on matters dealing with African American males throughout the lifespan.
C. J. Prentiss, former Ohio State Senator, was the first receipient of the Mac A. Stewart Distinguished Award for Service. She was selected for this year's award, because of her tireless efforts to improve school outcomes for African American male high school students throughout the state of Ohio. Ms. Prentiss was instrumental in establishing the Governors Achievement Gap Initiative, targeting African American male ninth graders at 13 urban school districts.
