What is the deadline for the Morrill Scholars Program (MSP) scholarship?
Deadline is December 1, 2009.
Who is eligible to apply for the MSP Program?
All students who believe in and/or have demonstrated a commitment to diversity and meet the minimum acacemic criteria.
Can I apply early for the MSP Program or should I wait for the application deadline?
Apply early, for admission by December 1, 2009.
What is the minimum criteria needed to apply for this scholarship program?
Two of the following three criteria are needed in order to be considered for this program.
Is there an application fee?
No, there is only an application fee when you apply to the university through the Admissions Office.
Are foreign students allowed to apply for this scholarship?
No, this scholarship program is only available for domestic (U.S. citizens) and permanent resident aliens.
Can I attend one of the regional campuses and apply for this scholarship?
No, this scholarship is only open to admitted Columbus campus students.
If I miss the deadline for this year, can I reapply for the following year?
No, it is a one time opportunity for incoming freshman, right out of high school for 4 years and/or 12 quarters; which ever comes first.
Is this scholarship renewable?
Yes, as long as you meet the academic criteria each year.
Do I need to turn in the college prep form, high school transcript, and activity list to OMA?
No, we can use the information that is mailed to the admissions office.
Will my MSP application be reviewed before an admission decision is made?
No, once an admission decision is made, student is admitted, then the MSP application will be reviewed and all required materials are received in this office.
When will I receive notification on whether or not I was awarded?
All applicants will be notified by email by the end of March 2010. Students will be able to go online to see the status of their application too.
Can I use my recommendation letters that were sent to the admissions office for my MSP application?
No, there is an online recommendation form at oma.osu.edu/recruitment that the MSP applicant must use. It can be downloaded or the recommender can fill one out online. The student needs to input their recommender's information online, so the directions can be emailed to the recommender.
Can I submit one of my essays from my high school AP/Honors English class instead of the essay in the MSP application?
No
By applying to the admissions office am I automatically considered for the MSP program?
Once you have applied, we will build an online application for you to finish and complete the required documentation.
How can I receive a paper application?
There is no paper application.
Can I use my unique ID from admissions to access my MSP application?
Yes
If I do not meet the MSP criteria by the deadline but will meet it after my first semester grades, should I still apply?
No, the criterion is minimum standards and the process is extremely competitive. A student needs to meet the minimum criterion at the time the application is due and a student has to be admitted in order to be considered for the MSP scholarships.
Is this scholarship based on academics only or are there other credentials being considered?
There is minimum academic criteria that each applicant has to meet in order to be considered for review by the Selection Committee. The committee will also take into consideration race/ethnicity/tribal background, socioeconomic status, potential first-generation college graduate, and Ohio county of residence.
What is the most important part of the application that stands out to the MSP Selection Review Committee?
Generally, all the applicants look alike academically, so it is very important to spend sufficient time on the essay. Choose non-relatives that know you personally for recommendations and can speak highly on your behalf in terms of your commitment to diversity, culture, and be able to explain in detail your role in these endeavors. Do not reiterate your academic credentials in the essay or the recommendation forms. Those credentials are evident in the high school transcript and college prep form.
How hard is it to receive a MSP scholarship?
It is a very competitive process. Last year we received approximately 2,000 applications and our goal is to enroll 435 MSP scholars for the academic year beginning Autumn Quarter.
